Properties of Lycra

The Lycra is very stretchy and durable. Stretches of between 500% and 700% are quite possible. The stretch length of Lycra is between eight and fifteen kilometers. The textile fiber is characterized by, among other things, low moisture absorption and permanent shape stability. Lycra is soft, smooth and can be dyed well. The fabric is not subject to static charge and can be washed in the washing machine at 40° C without problems.

Application of Lycra

The Lycra is predominantly used in the clothing industry. It is used in particular for swimwear, sportswear, socks and underwear.
It offers optimal wearing comfort in this range thanks to the elastane component. However, lycra is always mixed with other fibers – for example, with polyamide or polyester!
A high proportion of Lycra is often found in clothing items such as cycling shorts, leggings, tights, socks, medical or cosmetic stockings, and swimwear.

Composition of Lycra

A Lycrastoff consists of a unique combination of elastic and rigid fiber units. This ensures an extremely high level of stretchability of up to 700%.
However, Lycra fibers approved in Germany must contain at least 85% segmented polyurethane.
